New Queens Supreme Court Initiative Connects Self-Represented Litigants With Community Lawyers

With the opening of the Self-Represented Legal Assistance Project at Queens Supreme Court, low-income litigants navigating the legal system without an attorney will be able to obtain free legal assistance from community-based lawyers right in the courthouse. Attorneys from CUNY School of Law’s Community Legal Resource Network (CLRN), a nationally recognized collaborative network of community-based lawyers, will be available two afternoons a week to provide free brief legal consultations for litigants in need of legal services who cannot afford to pay for them.

The initiative, a collaboration between the Hon. Juanita Bing Newton, Deputy Chief Administrative Judge for Justice Initiatives, the Hon. Jeremy Weinstein, Administrative Judge of the Queens County Supreme Court, Civil Term, and the Community Legal Resource Network, has received seed funding from the office of City Council member David I. Weprin. Read moreat courts.state.ny.us.
